The Carb's Hot Rod Club of Athol Mass. was formed in 1957 and has been continuously active ever since.
The club began its start in a chicken coop building located in the founder's back yard on Petersham Rd. in Athol. They then rented a six bay garage in North Orange that was the first club house. Later, they rented a building in downtown Orange for a short while before eventually settling in our current location on Partridgeville Road. In its early years, the club also worked closely with the New England Timing Association, performing safety & tech inspections on cars that were drag raced at the Orange Airport.
Currently the club owns thirty plus acres of land that includes several buildings. A concrete six bay building, a two story converted chicken coop with seven bays and meeting room and storage on the second floor, and a two bay wooden building. Future plans include adding to the six bay building.
The club has weekly meetings and is limited to 40 members. In order to become a member, you must be sponsored by a current member in good standing, attend 4 consecutive meetings, be accepted by 2/3 majority vote at your 4th meeting and pay a one-time membership fee.
Membership is diverse, with interests ranging from traditional old-school hot rods to circle track cars, off-road vehicles and more. Many members believe that the longevity of CARBS Hot Rod club can be attributed to our tolerance of different interests, allowing members the flexibility to choose what suits them best, as long as their choice supports and promotes the hobby of hot rodding in general.
It is our goal to continue to operate as a reputable club and to promote and protect interest in hot rodding for both existing and future generations.
